NMG Sportive Trophy – it’s the 2014 final countdown

Congratulations to Jonathan Greenway – winner of the NMG Sportive Trophy for 2014. He’ll get his trophy back at the annual awards dinner.Screen shot 2015-01-29 at 12.24.29

So the slate is clean for 2015.

To start at the very beginning: The NMG Sportive Trophy is awarded to the rider who completes the most miles in organised rides over a year. By ‘organised’ we mean events over a measured course, paid for entry, non-competitive, and completed wearing our wonderful VC Norwich club kit.

It takes in sportives, obviously, along with audax and reliability events. Anything where, if we feel the need to do so, we can check with organisers that the event was ridden as claimed.

So why not join in for 2015? Right now you are equal first with Jonathan Greenway. Claims should be submitted to newseditor@vcnorwich.co.uk by email only. And only this address please, submissions to info@ or to any committee member’s personal email won’t count. The claim needs to say the event and miles completed.

As a technical point, Garmin measurements can differ from claim to claim so the Sportive Trophy Committee meets and awards the same mileage to every rider who completes a given event, taking an average (mode average, not mean average that would be silly) of the submitted claims.

So put your name down and get riding!

NMG Sportive Trophy update

It’s getting cold and wet out there so no surprise to receive only two claims for sportive / audax / reliability claims in for November. Michael Meadows appears to have secured his podium place with only one month to go. And reigning champion Jonathan Greenway has cemented the 2014 title with a month to go by already overhauling his 2013 total by 361 miles.

Any outstanding November claims by email please to newseditor@vcnorwich.co.uk to which address December claims should also be submitted.

NMG Sportive Trophy

Now I know a lot of people might think the fat lady is approaching the microphone, and it’s all over bar the shouting … but to have only one claim for mileage since the first weekend of the month is a bit thin. It sees David leap one place up the chart. Yes we know that mileage monster Jonathan Greenway is well on the way to winning (and bringing the club more kudos, more to come on that in the October newsletter) but come on, let’s keep the podium fight going. Claims for mileage to newseditor@vcnorwich.co.uk for participation in organised, measured events, but you must have worn club kit to do so (and the team has been examining the pictures from the CSUK Pinewood event). You know who you are …

Club Rides revert to “winter time” starting Sunday 26th October

Autumn is truly upon us and so from this coming Sunday 26th October we will be going back to a 9:30am start for the Sunday club rides. In the short term yes it does mean battling the church bells before setting off, but it also gives a bit more time for the mist to clear and the winter sun to take the chill off the day.

September Sportive miles

Screen shot 2014-10-02 at 14.46.19Sportive Trophy: with probably a few miles yet to be claimed for September it’s beginning to look like Chris Loveday is cementing his creditable second place behind the mileage monster that is Jonathan Greenway. Any more mileage claims welcome to newseditor@vcnorwich.co.uk … and while you’re at it, if you feel like scribbling a few cycliing-related lines to share with your club colleagues in the eagerly-awaited October newsletter, then by all means send that as well.

But don’t think the sportive trophy league is all over bar the shouting … you can enter miles for reliabilities, audices and anything else that’s a measured, organised but non-competitive event.

VCN Sporting Course TT – 12 Sept – Results

VCN’s season closing TT, on an 11.3mile “Sporting Course” round the well known local Skeets Hill circuit saw an excellent turn out. The inaugural event was blessed with fine weather but a lumpy circuit and nagging wind made for a challenging ride and the benchmarks have been set for next year’s re-run. Thanks also to all those who turned up to support and marshal: another great VCN event.
